When 18-year-old Joe Guerrero wasn't playing baseball, he was fishing at the lake near his home in suburban Lake Worth, as as he was the afternoon of August 2nd when dark clouds began rolling in. He says,"I saw the storm way north, started drizzling, so I started walking home and last thing I remember is waking up in the hospital."He opened his eyes to see second degree burns covering much of his body. The shorts he was wearing were scorched. His face was black, blue and bloody. It was the startling aftermath of being hit by lightning. "They didn't think I was gonna be able to walk after the first day," Guerrero explains. He proved them wrong, enduring painful rehabilitation and quickly getting back on his feet. His father, also named Joe Guerrero says, "It's amazing. It's nothing short of amazing." Amazing because only four months later, Joe is doing more than just walking. He is lifting heavy weights and working out several days a week with personal trainer Joel Molina of 1822 Fitness in suburban West Palm Beach. His focus is not only on building his strength but also on getting back on the baseball field during this, his senior year at Palm Beach Central High School. "I've been playing since I was four, I just can't stop, it's in my blood," Guerrero explains. And now, it's in his blood to continue beating the odds. Working at 1822 Fitness for over a year now has helped me reduce my cholesterol and HDL levels as per recent blood test. Comparing with 2009, my cholesterol went down 11 points from 183 to 172.
